NHS Research Scotland and the Chief Scientist Office held a Patient and Public Involvement Event at the V&A Museum in Dundee last week, featuring a number of talks and workshops throughout the day. Alleviate Deputy Director Gordon Milligan and Project Coordinator Susan Long were both in attendance. It was great to have such an important event on ‘home soil’ for Alleviate!
Among the many interesting talks presented on the day, some highlights included a session on “Working with underserved groups” led by PPIE members from CAPE (Consortium Against Pain inEquality), another University of Dundee project which works closely with Alleviate, and a workshop on “Impact and evaluation”, which featured a session facilitated by Alleviate’s PPIE coordinator Judith Fisher.

This event showed the breadth of different PPI activities that are going on around the country. It was a great learning experience but also very humbling to hear public and patient members share their own personal stories and challenges.
The Alleviate Pain Data Hub is a £2M collaborative project funded by a consortium of funders including Versus Arthritis and the UK Medical Research Council. The project is led by the University of Dundee and involves partners from across the UK. Alleviate is one of nine HDR UK Health Data Research Hubs.
