Kathy Morse, member of Alleviate’s Lived Experience Advisory Group, and I had a great day at the Health Data Research UK event in Manchester.

The purpose of the event was to share experiences of the positive impact that people with lived experience have on the usefulness of research and to discuss the challenges and barriers that exist in working in a genuinely collaborative way.

We were able to spend time discussing issues as diverse as the use of AI in health data research to exploring partnerships with industry.

One of the most interesting sessions for me, was hearing about PEDRI’s work on the development of good practice guidelines for public involvement and engagement in data-driven research and statistics.

In addition to everything we learned, the best part of the day was getting the opportunity to meet Kathy in person, after countless online meetings, and being able to see first hand what a great ambassador she is for the work of Alleviate.

The Alleviate Pain Data Hub is a £2M collaborative project funded by a consortium of funders including Versus Arthritis and the UK Medical Research Council. The project is led by the University of Dundee and involves partners from across the UK. Alleviate is one of nine HDR UK Health Data Research Hubs.
