June conferences round-up

Summary

Several members of the Alleviate team have been busy over the last few weeks as conference season ramps up.

Alleviate Deputy Director Gordon Milligan attended OHDSI Europe Symposium in Rotterdam. This conference was titled “Scaling up reliable evidence across Europe” and took place in the rather unique setting of the SS Rotterdam, a former ocean liner which now operates as a hotel and events venue. Our poster on the OMOP data standard attracted a lot of interest.

Alleviate Director Dr. Christian Cole attended the British Pain Society (BPS) Annual Scientific Meeting in Nottingham. Chris presented the initial results from the UK National Pain Survey, which Alleviate ran for the first time last year in collaboration with Pain UK and Chronic Pain Australia. The full title of the poster was “How lived experience can inform and direct pain projects: the Alleviate Pain Data Hub as a case study”.

Chris was also in attendance at the APDP Annual Conference in Nottingham alongside Alleviate’s Data Engineer Erum Masood, PPIE Coordinator Judith Fisher and PPIE members Antony, Kausar and Irene. Chris again presented our poster on the pain survey results while Erum presented a poster entitled “The Alleviate Advanced Pain Discovery Platform Data Hub”.

It was great to hear from some many people with lived experience of pain at the conference. We considered issues around diversity and how we ensure the voices of a range of people is heard within our research. There was a lot to take away and consider
